His family has deep roots in Cherokee as at least seven generations on both sides of his family have resided in the county. Nate has been married to Kim Cochran since 2002. They have two sons, Noah and Jacob, and expect a daughter, Elizabeth, in the fall of 2013. They reside in Free Home, a small community in eastern Cherokee County that is a short distance from Canton. The Cochrans are members of Cumming First United Methodist Church, where they volunteer regularly.

A firearms aficionado, Nate has combined this personal hobby with his legal practice and launched a website serving the needs of clients who require NFA Firearms trusts. You can find the link here or on the home page of this website. He is also a hunter and enjoys training the family dog Marshal, who is a Brittany Spaniel. In addition, Nate is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Cherokee, a program sponsored by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce bolstering local leaders. He was a founding member and chairman of the Cherokee County Citizens for Property Rights and has served as both the Free Home precinct manager and party treasurer of the Cherokee County Republican Party.
